Choose the installation form

ABB’s ACS580 catalogue distinguishes ACS580-01 wall-mounted drives, ACS580-04 modules for cabinet integration and ACS580-07 cabinet-built drives. The enclosure, cooling, installation work and electrical configuration differ between these forms. A module is not a complete enclosed drive assembly.

Motor and process requirements

ACS580 is a general-purpose motor-control platform. Scalar and vector control, application functions and available interfaces support a range of processes; select the actual hardware and control program for the motor and duty. Do not apply the maximum catalogue power or a single frame’s overload capability to every reference.

• Provide motor type and nameplate voltage, current, power, frequency and speed.
• Identify normal or heavy-duty requirements, starting torque, overload cycle and the required speed range.
• Confirm supply voltage/frequency, earthing system, prospective fault level and protection requirements.
• Specify installation form, enclosure/protection degree, ambient temperature, altitude and cooling conditions.
• Check motor-cable length, EMC environment, filters, braking duty and the required communication or I/O.
• Verify the full type code and options against the hardware manual, including any safety-function integration requirements.

Standards and documentation boundaries

IEC-oriented and UL/NEMA-oriented documentation may show different ratings, enclosures and installation requirements. A protection class or built-in feature described for one version is not a universal property of the whole family. Confirm the applicable standards and installation manual for the full ordered reference.
