ABB PSR & PSRC Softstarters

• PSR: compact starting and stopping control where basic ramp functions and limited panel space are important.
• PSRC: a compressor-focused range with fixed settings, described by ABB for scroll-compressor starting and refrigerated multideck cabinets.
• ABB describes built-in bypass operation for these products. Motor overload and short-circuit protection must still be checked as part of the starter combination.

Supply Ratings & Starting Duty

ABB publishes a PSR range overview of 3–105 A and 208–600 V main supply, with alternative control supplies of 100–240 V AC or 24 V AC/DC. These are range and version descriptions, not one control voltage or motor rating shared by every code. Confirm the selected unit’s operational current and motor duty in its ordering table.

Provide motor nameplate current and voltage, load type, acceleration time, starts per hour and ambient conditions. Frequent or demanding starts require the applicable duty and derating checks; a range-level starting-frequency claim is not a guarantee for every installation.

Protection, Standards & Version Boundaries

Confirm the upstream short-circuit protection, motor overload protection, contactor and any connection kit against ABB’s coordination tables. A bypass function does not establish complete motor protection or permit arbitrary combinations.

Use IEC/EN 60947-4-2 data and the relevant regional approvals for the exact product. IEC current/power tables and North American FLA/hp tables must be read under their own conditions. The reference list remains unchanged even when a newer catalogue presents different codes; historical ratings and approvals require the matching document.

Include main supply, control supply, motor nameplate, driven load, starting duty and required protection/accessories.
