ABB ACS880 Industrial Drives

Different hardware for different duties

The existing list includes ACS880 wall-mounted drives, cabinet-integration modules and cabinet-built references. ABB documentation distinguishes the ACS880-01, -04 and -07 installation forms. Module integration requires appropriate cabinet design, protection and cooling; the module and a complete cabinet drive are not the same assembly.

ABB separately documents ACS880-11 regenerative and ACS880-31 ultra-low harmonic wall-mounted drives. Regenerative duty concerns returning braking energy to the supply; low-harmonic duty concerns the input-current waveform. Do not infer either capability for every ACS880 reference or transfer a headline harmonic value to every site.

Motor-control and configuration selection

ABB’s ACS880 platform uses Direct Torque Control for demanding speed and torque duties. Actual performance depends on motor data, control program, feedback and the complete drive configuration. Choose the current rating and overload capability for the application, rather than selecting solely by nominal kW.

• Provide motor type, voltage, current, power, frequency and required speed/torque range.
• Identify overload cycles, acceleration, deceleration and continuous or intermittent braking requirements.
• Confirm supply voltage, network/earthing conditions, installation fault level and any harmonic requirements.
• Specify drive form, enclosure, cooling method, ambient temperature and altitude.
• Confirm control-unit and firmware requirements, encoder/feedback, fieldbus, I/O and safety-function integration.
• Use the complete option suffixes and applicable hardware manual to check filters, cables, protection and installation.

Version and standards boundaries

The table also retains references such as -04XT, -07XT and -07C. Their detailed ratings and installation conditions require the applicable version-specific ABB documentation; they are not assigned another version’s parameters here. IEC and UL/NEMA ratings, enclosure classes and approvals must be verified for the full code and region.

Historical model and code references remain unchanged. Product status and current availability should be confirmed before ordering. No direct replacement or interchangeability is implied.
