The ABB MS132 range on this page includes products for different protection duties. Standard MS132 and MS132-K manual motor starters provide motor switching with thermal overload and magnetic short-circuit protection. MS132-T is for control transformer protection and must not be treated as a motor starter.
The original table retains 43 records, including plain, K and T designations. ABB’s guide describes MS132/MS132-K with a 45 mm width and a range of current settings across different units. Each model has its own adjustment range and ratings. See the Motor Protection & Manual Motor Starters category.
MS132 Product Duties & Selection
MS132, MS132-K & MS132-T Differences
- MS132: motor protection and manual switching with screw terminals.
- MS132-K: the documented motor starter version with Push-in Spring terminals.
- MS132-T: control transformer protection with different tripping characteristics; ABB states that it should not be used for motor protection.
- Keep the complete suffix and Article Number when identifying a unit; a common family name does not establish equivalent duty.
Motor or Transformer: Confirm the Duty First
For motor protection, provide the motor nameplate current at the actual voltage and connection, starting duration and load duty. Choose a documented current-setting range that covers the motor requirement and follow the relevant setting instructions. Motor kW alone is insufficient for selecting an exact unit.
For a T-version transformer application, identify the transformer primary voltage/current and inrush conditions. Use the dedicated transformer-protection data rather than transferring a motor selection table. The existing historical model names and codes remain unchanged; confirm their exact version using ABB documentation.
Breaking Capacity, Standards & Coordination
Check Icu and Ics for the exact product at the operating voltage, together with prospective short-circuit current and any required back-up protection. A maximum family breaking-capacity claim is not a rating for every code or voltage.
ABB’s motor protection catalogue supplies IEC/EN 60947-2, 60947-4-1 and 60947-1 data for the relevant products. Use the correct product function and standard when specifying a T version. North American applications require the matching listing and installation conditions. For a motor starter with a contactor, select an ABB-tested combination under its stated coordination conditions.
Terminals, Accessories & Requesting a Quote
Check screw versus Push-in terminals, conductor sizes, installation space, ambient conditions and required auxiliary/signalling contacts or releases. Accessories, connecting links and contactor interfaces must be matched to the exact main device; control voltage applies to the selected release or other accessory where relevant.
Send the complete model and ABB Order Code / Article Number, quantity and destination country. State motor or transformer duty, nameplate current/voltage, starting or inrush conditions, available short-circuit current, terminal preference and required accessories. For an existing assembly, add markings, photos and wiring details.
