ABB CMS current sensors monitor individual branches in electrical distribution systems. The range includes open-core and solid-core sensors with several mounting arrangements. Choose the current range, core type and mounting suffix together, then verify the controller and connection arrangement.

Open-Core, Solid-Core & Mounting Options

The current InSite catalogue lists open-core CMS-12x sensors and solid-core CMS-10x/CMS-20x sensors. PS mounting is intended for the specified DIN-rail protection devices and SMISSLINE arrangement; S8 versions mount on ABB S800 high-performance breakers; DR versions mount on DIN rail; CA versions use a cable tie. LA is a separately documented open-core mounting arrangement. Mounting suffixes are not interchangeable merely because the current range matches.

Branch Monitoring or Energy Metering?

A CMS current sensor is a system component, not a standalone billing energy meter or a conventional 1 A/5 A current transformer. Confirm the bus connection, controller support, firmware, current range, conductor clearance and mounting method against ABB’s documentation. Current sensing alone does not establish a fiscal-energy measurement capability. Existing CMS600/CMS700 control-unit enquiries require a separate exact-model documentation check; no lifecycle or replacement claim is made here.
