Controller and adapter roles

Vital is a safety controller for documented DYNlink circuits. Tina adapters and connection units serve distinct interface/distribution roles: an adapter is not a complete safety controller. ABB describes use of suitable Tina types to connect specified conventional safety devices to DYNlink arrangements.

The existing references include Vital 1, Vital 2, Vital 3 and several Tina types. Current Vital 1 catalogue information must not be applied automatically to all historical Vital versions. Select the adapter by its documented input device, signal type, connection and wiring requirements.

DYNlink and safety-function design

DYNlink uses a monitored dynamic signal returned through the safety circuit. Device quantity, controller capacity and permitted topology follow the exact product documentation. Do not connect an arbitrary contact or OSSD device simply because the connector fits.

• Identify the safety functions and required performance level from the machine risk assessment.
• List devices and signals, the selected Vital controller, exact Tina types and proposed DYNlink topology.
• Confirm control supply, safe outputs and output loads, reset and external-device monitoring requirements.
• Check connectors, cable lengths, diagnostics, installation conditions and response times.

EN ISO 13849-1/IEC 62061 system requirements and validation concern the complete safety function; a controller or adapter alone does not establish the machine’s achieved PL/SIL.

All 18 original models and Vendor Codes are retained. No unverified interchangeability, lifecycle or replacement relationship is assigned to older references.
